Tecovas started with a simple idea: Make better boots, the right way.
In 2015, founder, Paul Hedrick, saw the Western industry growing tired — hard to navigate, especially for first-time boot buyers, and missing the spark that once wowed customers. With a dream and a trunk full of boots, he set out to build a brand that would bring the magic of the West back to life — in a fresh and modern way.
Hedrick hit the road selling boots wherever he could — farmers’ markets, local fairs, even his old elementary school’s holiday fair — meeting people, hearing their stories, and forging connections that would shape the way he built the brand. Every firm handshake and every friendly conversation reinforced a core philosophy: Western footwear can be exciting, accessible, and built to last.
What began as a small, one-man dream, quickly grew into a fully fledged team nestled in the heart of Austin’s vibrant eastside — where every Tecovas product is still designed today.
We Make Them Like They Used To
With a foundational commitment to quality, Hedrick knew that honoring generational bootmaking traditions was paramount to ensuring that every pair would stand the test of time — and look good doing it.
Each Tecovas boot is made in over 200 steps — by hand — with quality and craftsmanship at the very core. And it starts with the last. Our signature boot shape has been designed and refined over time to fit a wide range of feet with precision, comfort, and timeless style. At the heart of each boot, is a tri-layer insole enclosing the shank for lifelong structure and support. Every shaft, vamp, and counter are finished with hand-selected premium leathers — rich in grain, full of character, and responsibly sourced.
For our dress boots, the journey begins deep in the heart of León, Mexico — a place where traditional hand leatherworking is passed down from generation to generation as a birthright and a living connection to heritage. It’s this same heart and commitment to old-world methods that ensures every single stitch and cut are perfected to the highest standard.
Over the last 10 years, Tecovas has grown from Paul’s one-man team, to more than 1400 employees. From our very first flagship on South Congress, to more than 50 locations across the country, every Tecovas store serves as an open door to the West.
